Hi folks!
I am back at Newton's Nook for my last guest design post for September. I cannot believe how quickly this month flew by! For my last card, I decided to share a technique or rather layout that I enjoy - using large words with stamped images! Newton's Nook makes so many standalone images that are perfect for this technique and I constantly find myself swapping the 'Os' in 'Love', 'OMG" etc with a cute Newton. Here is one that I made a while back:
For a Christmas card, I decided to use some cute christ-mouses from the Naughty or Mice Stamp set along with some large alphabets that read "Fa La La La...". I first started out with a plan to use three mice and the words 'Fa La La' but I quickly realized how big the mice were! So I cut it down to a single 'La' and decided to channel the inner math nerd in me and and add eighth power to 'La'! I think that fixed it? It definitely makes a super cute card for another math nerd! All of the alphabets were cut using my silhouette cameo in 'Rockwell' font. Any large alphabet die works too. The images were colored using alcohol markers and colored pencils. I then finished the card with a sentiment from the same set.

I hope you try this super easy and cute technique for some of your cards. You can use words like Joy, Jolly, Noel, Snow etc. and make the sentiment the focal point of your card along with an adorable stamped image from Newton's Nook!

Thank you so much for having me as your Guest Designer this month! I hope I inspired you in some way.. I definitely had so much fun!

Thanks and Happy Crafting,
Kavya

Hi All,

I am excited to be back with another technique using some amazing Newton's Nook products! Let's change things up a bit and play with stencils this time, shall we? Stencils are super fun and can be used to create dramatic cards in a few simple steps. Here is how I created mine:

  • I decided to use some Kraft cardstock instead of my usual white for this card. I attached the card to the ---- stencil using washi tape.
  • I first ink blended using white hybrid ink. I then moved the stencil a bit and then ink blended using 4 colors to create a rainbow. I used pink, yellow, lime green, and teal hybrid inks. Adding a white layer first creates a dramatic shadow and really makes the color pop when you are using a colored cardstock!
  • To add some extra glimmer, keeping the stencil in place from the last step, I used Tim Holtz's Nebula stickles glitter gel. I didn't like the stars so I manually removed them later on using a picking tool.
  • I then used some outline letter dies for my sentiment. As I really liked the ink blended panel and didn't want to cover much of it, I used vellum for the center of the alphabets so that you can still see some of the rainbow gorgeousness.
  • I then attached the panel to a larger panel using some foam.
  • And that's about it!

I hope you liked this quick stencil card using this amazing Newton's Nook stencil. I can't believe next week is my last week already! I had so much fun sharing some cool ways to use NN's products!

Thanks for reading,

Hello everyone,

I am excited to be guest designing for Newton's Nook for the month of September! Thank you Samantha for giving me this wonderful opportunity! I have four cards with totally different techniques and styles lined up for you this month! If you have been following me for a while, you would know that I don't have a signature style. I like mixing up things and trying to come up with creative ways to use my stash. I am a huge fan of Newton's Nook products as they are versatile and super cute!

My first card uses some good old distress ink blending scene for Christmas. Here is how I put this together:
  • I distress inked my panel using Mermaid Lagoon and Cracked Pistachio. I then tried to create a snow texture by adding water and white ink splatters.

  • I cut the winter scene landscape using my silhouette cameo but you can use a similar die of your choice.
  • I colored the images from All Aboard for Christmas using my alcohol ink markers. I like to add darker tones to my images using color pencils later on.
  • After assembling the card, I heat embossed a sentiment on teal cardstock using white embossing powder. (PS: this actually covers up a snafu! I tried embossing directly on to the background but it didn't stand out as much and wasn't aligned properly.)
  • Voila! You are done :)
I hope you liked this card and I can't wait to be back next week to share another style!

Thanks,
Kavya
